AS WE LIKE HIM
Hommage à Shakespeare
A Shakespeare programme from the Kölner Vokalsolisten
„To Sing Or Not To Sing?“: the Kölner Vokalsolisten give a resounding ‚Yes‘!!
Even though 2016 is the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, the new programme from the Kölner Vokalsolisten ‚AS WE LIKE HIM‘ is a very joyous occasion. Contemporary settings of Shakespeare’s texts are to be heard alongside Baroque songs, resulting in a timeless ringing homage to one of the great figures in world literature.
Shakespeares monologues, songs and sonnets have found congenial composers, be it Ralph Vaughan Williams, Nils Lindberg, Paavo Mäntiyärvi, Thomas Morley or John Tavener, but the programme also includes new works by Christina Cordelia Messner („come what may come“, Premiere 12.11.2016) and Georgi Sztojanov (‚Hamlet quotes‘ Premiere 02.12.2016), as well as new arrangements.
The choice of contemporary works reflects the timelessness of his language. The characters and themes remain as relevant and vivid today, as for Shakespeare’s contemporaries 400 years ago. The whole spectrum of life is here: springlike airiness, the delirium of love, elfish dances and witchcraft, merry and outrageous japes.
Duration: 1 – 1,5 h, with or without break, also possible with a piece with Marimbaphon or in combination with rezitation.
